4 Weeks Post-Op!
I've taken my first meager steps with brace, without crutches over the last few days! It's somewhat liberating and encouraging to know that I can still walk. (Without the brace, I'm definitely less confident.) In retrospect, I probably could have pushed myself harder earlier on but I think I've taken the appropriate amount of caution so far. This given the fact that I haven't gone to PT.... I should also mention that a lot of my decisions regarding recovery and rehab also have A LOT to do with my financial situation, as I'm still living paycheck to paycheck and transitioning to full time employment soon.
The plan is to start seeing the PT by the end of February to check in and assess strength. My hunches tell me neuromuscular electrical stimulation might be very helpful given that I could still notice atrophy before surgery (where I was pretty much still capable of jogging and doing sports).
I plan on wearing the brace up to the six week mark (locked during ambulation) but no longer than eight weeks (after six weeks, no lock). No Crutches! Day is two weeks from now on January 28th.
Extension is still somewhat uncomfortable so I've been working on it with prone hangs.
Flexion is good! I still have trouble with flexion from a prone position. The exercise peddler has been helping (using it instead of a stationary bike).
Bruising for the most part is negligble. The two major bruise areas after surgery (lateral side of hamstrings and medial side of knee) are dissipating. However, the shin bruising that appeared over time can be bothersome in my knee brace.
Pain and swelling management consist of using an ice pack in the mornings and evenings after rehab exercises. Sometimes, I will do an extra ice pack session before sleep (this is usually very helpful and I wish I would do it every night). There is still some obvious swelling above the kneecap and occasionally the area below will seem more inflamed than usual. I don't usually take ibuprofen anymore. What am I supposed to do with my giant bottle of Advil now?
Nutrition: Losing an extra 2 lbs seems to have been beneficial and is helping speed recovery. I really like to think that my other consumption habits have been beneficial as well (hydration, aloe vera juice, cranberry juice, fruits, and veggies) but it's hard to say. I feel that my skin is looking better and I'm starting to cope better with my energy levels. My moods have mostly stabilized. (It could be nutrition or a placebo effect. heh..) :-)
Also, I am pretty much lusting after knee braces now... Why must they be so expensive!?

5 Weeks Post-Op!
Currently Listening: Movin On (Twax ft. Solomina); Talk is Cheap (Chet Faker)
One week 'til no crutches! Still an obvious leg size difference and bruising on shins are still tender to the touch. Icing on average 2-3 times a day (once in the morning, once in the evening). Lost ~1lb since last week. I'm hobbling around at home in a controlled setting, working on my gait. Heel to toe.. heel to toe..... Every day I'm getting better. Advanced hobbling tactics! :D
This time around, recovery from knee surgery has me ruminating on the following thoughts:
- Take life day by day. Be patient. Take it steady.
- Mind and body are connected.
- Passion is a fuel to keep you moving forward. But consistency and maintenance keep the car working. Find your stride; balance with passion.

6(-1d) Weeks Post-Op!
Currently Listening: How We Feel (Panama); Do You Know How to Feel It (Diogenes Club)
Went without brace and crutches on Monday and now today at work. Got a lot to do so going to keep this entry short.
I still walk with a slight bend to my knee which concerns me. I can reach full extension but I guess not comfortably... so... working on that. Other than that, strength has returned and I'm feeling pretty good. I can walk up the stairs without holding on to the railing and can walk down stairs that are not too steep with the railing.
Waiting another 2 weeks before quickening pace. (8 weeks post-op = when the graft should be safely vascularized).
Swelling has gone down considerably and I am still icing 2-3 times per day.
Will be some time before I incorporate heat/cold therapy.

7 Weeks Post-Op!
Currently Listening: Baby I'm Yours (Arctic Monkeys)
First week on my feet. It's actually been liberating and quite easy. But I'm starting to worry that I'm not doing the PT right. Yesterday my knee had a spastic moment behind my hamstring that ended up being really painful. It's like I pulled a muscle. If I had to guess, I'd think it's because I'm not really utilizing those muscles so they are starting to "wake up."
Ugh.
Walking still slightly bent. A bit frustrating. This upcoming week, I need to be better about forcing my knee to bend all the way.

8+ Weeks Post-Op
Currently Listening: Style (Taylor Swift)
The past Valentine's/President's Day weekend, I embarked on some light hiking trips with boyfrand and a solo trip along PCH.
No problems. Full ROM not reached yet. But close! Light clicking in my knee at times :(

12 Weeks Post-Op
Currently Listening: One Last Time (Ariana Grande)
I still don't have full ROM (butt touch) yet. I haven't been very diligent about it but my gait has vastly improved and the slight bend is going away. Lack of diligence due to life getting in the way. :(
However, I've started jogging 1 to 1.5 miles at a time, which can get a little painful but the muscle mass is returning and the situation is definitely improving bit by bit. Also joining gym classes and yoga with my coworker. :)
